At Kimpton we have a dedicated area for Forest School which has been established since 2016. The school has s fully trained Forest School leader Miss Jeffery who takes groups of children for weekly sessions. All classes in the school have the opportunity to experience Forest Schools at some stage throughout the year.
Forest School is the name for an approach to educating children in the outdoors environment on a regular basis. Work will support the school curriculum and will have a strong emphasis on raising children’s self-esteem and independence.
Forest School activities will teach the children about caring for, managing and understanding the woodland environment. To do this, children will have opportunities to use hand tools such as bow saws, knives and bill hooks as well as learning about different fires and their uses. Although this might sound alarming please be reassured that Forest School has an excellent safety record thanks to the extensive training required to become a Level 3 Forest School Leader and due to the rigorous risk assessments that are carried out prior to all sessions.
Ultimately, by raising your child’s independence and self-esteem, they should be able to use Forest School to enhance their learning in other areas of the curriculum whilst developing a love and understanding of the natural environment.
